Vaid, who left this world on April 5, 2025, at the age of 82 in Chicago. Born in Patiala, India, on June 8, 1942, his journey was one marked by deep purpose, quiet resilience, and a heart that held generations together. Gurdass Ji lived a life rooted in hard work and humility. In Patiala, he was not only known for his gifted hands—able to craft, build, paint, and repair—but also for his soulful spirit. He played the bansuri at Tipri functions, a sound that still echoes in our memories. He built a thriving workshop for denting and painting, becoming a man deeply respected by his entire city—not for power or wealth, but for the dignity with which he carried himself. In 1992, he began a new chapter in Chicago. With courage and love, he carved out a life that became the foundation for our entire family. He built bonds, created opportunities, and paved the way for each of us with the same care and strength that marked everything he did. It’s because of him that we are here—grounded, grateful, and together. He loved art and music, not just as hobbies, but as expressions of his soul. He painted with the same precision and passion that he brought to every aspect of life. In his later years, he turned inward, devoting himself fully to spiritual reading and reflection, embracing the wisdom of Hindu scriptures with reverence and peace. But what we will carry forward most is how he made each of us feel. He had a quiet magic—he made everyone feel important, capable, and chosen. He gave each of us unique roles, special responsibilities that only we could fulfill in his eyes. In doing so, he gave us identity, pride, and a sense of belonging that will never fade. He was a man of rare health and even rarer spirit—never one to complain, never one to rest when something needed doing. He was strength in its truest form: not loud or boastful, but steady, warm, and unshakably kind. Gurdass C. Vaid is survived by his sons and daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives he touched with his love and guidance. He leaves behind not just a family, but a legacy of grace, devotion, creativity, and quiet heroism. We will remember him not only as the pillar of our family but as the artist of our lives—painting each of us into a bigger picture with patience, pride, and endless love. His visitation will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m., located at McCauley-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematorium, 530 West Boughton Road, Bolingbrook, Illinois 60440. A prayer service will immediately follow the visitation from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Cremation ceremony to conclude services at the funeral home. After the services at the funeral home, his Paath and Langar will begin at 1:00 p.m., located at the Sikh Religious Society, 1280 Winnetka Street, Palatine, Illinois 60067.
